Mangaluru, Nov 19: “Past 450 years have passed with the blessings of Our Lady of Holy Rosary. This Jubilee celebration should make us more humane in relating to the people” said Dr Peter Paul Saldanha at Rosario Cathedral here on Sunday, November 18.
He was addressing the gathering on the occasion of 450-year jubilee celebrations of Rosario Cathedral.
Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop Emeritus of Mangaluru diocese, Msgr Maxim Noronha the vicar general, Fr Stanislaus D’Souza SJ, UT khaddar, district in-charge and urban development minister, and MP Oscar Fernandes were the chief guests of the programme.
On this occasion of Jubilee scar Fernandes released a special stamp of Rosario Cathedral. Various projects of the 450 years were inaugurated.
A cheque of 1 lac was handed over to the SVP unit of the parish by Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza for the purpose of repairing the houses of the poor. UT Khadar handed over financial help to 10 poor families’ for acquiring title deeds.
Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha inaugurated a medical fund for the parish.
A cheque of Rs 4.5 lac was handed over to the director of Prison Ministry India of the diocese of Mangaluru, to set free and to rehabilitate the prisoners.
Fr J B Crasta, rector of Rosario Cathedral, Secretary of Mangaluru diocese M P Noronha, MLC Ivan D'Souza, former MLA J R Lobo, corporator Abdul Lathif, Sr Milly Fernandes, Sr Mabilia AC, Fr Flavian Lobo, assistant parish priest, CJ Simon and Elizabeth Roche, vice-president and secretary of parish council were present on the dais.
Welcome dance was performed by the students of the Rosario English medium and parish children. Fr r J B Crasta welcomed the gathering. Elizabeth Roche thanked.
