Moodbidri: Curtains down on Alva's Nudisiri, colourful cultural fest

Moodbidri, Nov 19: Dr Chandrashekhar Kambar, president of Sahitya Akademi, said the time is ripe now to cogitate on and take a decision on imparting education in one's mother tongue to conserve uniqueness of land, language, and culture. He was delivering the valedictory address of the three-day 'Alva's Nudisiri' programme organized at Moodbidri under the aegis of Alva's Education Foundation on Sunday, November 18.



He felt that the feeling that Macaulay's system of education is relevant even after the country became independent is particularly dangerous to languages like Kannada. He lamented that the people are lacking knowledge about Kannada literature, culture and traditions. He felt that literature should support the people to take in cultural finesse and give rise to creativity among small children. He wished that mother tongue will regain prominence in the country a education system.

In her presidential address, Dr Mallika S Ghanti, felt that Nudisiri programme has given an ideal stage for the presentation of complete diaspora and multi-faceted Kannada culture. She congratulated Dr Mohan Alva for organizing a programme of such a magnitude without the presence of police personnel and political speeches and showing to the world how the audiences should behave.

Inaugurator of Nudisiri, Dr Sha Shettar, legislators, Umanath Kotian and S L Bhoje Gowda, and former MLC, Capt Ganesh Karnik, were the chief guests of the function.

Dr M Mohan Alva, who welcomed, said that his heart is contented at the support given by the people and expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the enormous success of Nudisiri.

'Nudisiri' award comprising memento, citation and Rs 2 5,000 in cash were presented on this occasion to Dr G D Joshi, Dr A D Narasimhamurthy, Dr Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Dr Arundhati Nag, L Bandenawaz Khaleef Aldala, Dr K Ramananda Banari, Dr Narahalli Balasubrahmanya, Prof A V Navada, Fr Prashant Madtha, Gartigere Raghaanna, Aruva Koragappa Shetty, and Y Mysuru Nataraj Washington.
