Bhatkal, Nov 17: In a tragic incident which occurred in the town on Friday November 16, the conductor of a Volvo bus belonging to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) was killed after a branch of a roadside tree pierced him in the chest. The conductor at the time, was seated beside the driver of the bus, it is gathered.
The deceased has been identified as Panchayya Mathapathi (35) from Raibag in Belagavi district attached to Mangaluru depot of KSRTC.
The tragedy happened when the driver was taking the bus, which had arrived from Mangaluru on its routine trip, to the KSRTC depot on Sagar Road here. When the bus swerved a little to the right, the extended branch of a roadside tree got thrust into the bus. It is said that the branch, which passed over the head of the driver, pierced the chest of the conductor who was sitting next to him. The conductor breathed his last on the spot.
A report about the accident was registered in the town police station here. The police have undertaken investigation.
