Bengaluru, Nov 16: It is alleged that Yeddyurappa was involved in violation of election code of conduct during Gundlupet by-election. A special court which has concluded the hearing has reserved its verdict on November 29.
Yeddyurappa who had gone for campaigning in Bheemanabeedu village had asked those who would vote for lotus symbol to raise their hands in the name of God. Yeddyurappa had also said that he would adopt Gundlupet village if BJP wins.
Police who conducted investigations into the incident had submitted a chargesheet to special court where the hearing was held subsequently.
The statements of witnesses were recorded. The court had issued summons to record the statement of Yeddyurappa. He attended the court on Thursday and made a statement that the allegations are false.
If the allegations against Yeddyurappa are proved, the court may sentence him to maximum one year’s prison term or fine under section 171 G.
Another court has also reserved its verdict on November 29 in a case of violation of election code of conduct relating to payment of one lac rupees compensation by Yeddyurappa to a farmer’s family which had committed suicide for being unable to repay loans.
