Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 15: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, announced that Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 75 would be thrown open for the use of all the vehicles from Thursday, November 15 morning.

The road on Shiradi Ghat had suffered landslides due to heavy rain within a few weeks since it was re-opened after remaining closed for repairs and widening for six months. Thereafter the administration had closed it for traffic on account rain and landslides. Later, it was opened for light vehicles. Now, safety measures like construction of barriers, traffic safety tapes, boards of instructions, cat eye, road humps, etc have been undertaken and the entire stretch is now ready for two-way traffic, it is learnt.

A release by the deputy commissioner said that all the vehicles are now allowed to use this road, as all the works almost have been completed on the road.

There are some stretches that was one-way even last weekend. The stretch after concrete road is in bad shape. Allowing heavy vehicles will further exasperate the road condition.

This is the legendary road that has changed lives of many poor contractors... Today they don't even have to drive on the roads they made, but travel by air.

All concerns goes to Shirady Stretch, and I am surprised no takers for Charmadi?

Belthangadi and Buntwal MLAs are from BJP, MP is from BJP, National High Way Authority (NAHI) is in the control of BJP lead central Government, but there is no interest?

Election time only sky rocking assurances will come. Recently MP gave a promise that after 2 years 4 lane road for Buntwal to Charmady will be done... but I heard people say 'provided he wins again, and let him first do Pumpwel flyover'

At Guruvayankere, where several roads connect, road is so narrow and there is no pathway or drainage, and even 2 big Volvo bus pass in very difficult way. All this why it is not reflecting to these MLA and MPs?

Government department like NAHI and PWD is expected to be sluggish and irresponsible, but what about our elected legislators and Parliamentarians?

People should come out and protest... it is high time
