Mangaluru, Nov 13: Shashidhar from Mangaluru who had come to Karnataka Information Commission following a notice on hearing an appeal was stuck in Bengaluru after the state government declared holiday due to untimely demise of union minister H N Ananth Kumar.
Frustrated over repeated public holidays, Shashidhar in a video shot by himself lashed out at government officials and concerned authority for declaring holidays and causing inconvenience to the common man. The video has now gone viral on social media.
In the video, Shashidhar says that he had already left to Bengaluru and came to Mahiti Soudha seeking justice. "When I reached Bengaluru, the state government had declared public holiday to all government offices and courts following death of union minister Ananth Kumar. Already, government officials have almost 180 holidays in a year with weekly holiday, leaves and other holidays celebrating various jayanthis like Buddha, Tipu, and Valmiki. We are paying for their salaries on these holidays with our tax money. The government should work for people. But why this government causes inconveniences to people by declaring holidays every now and then?" he asks.
"I have come from Mangaluru leaving all my work. There are others too who have arrived from faraway places seeking justice. Why declare holiday if a politician or minister dies? These government officials
enjoy life with luxury with our money and we are looking after white elephants by giving them more holidays like this. We are not slaves to these politicians or government officials. If you are declaring holidays, you should cut their salaries for that too,” he added.
He further urges CM Kumaraswamy to stop this trend of declaring holidays. "If you continue to declare holidays, then pay for accommodation, food and other travel expenses of people who face inconveniences like us. In a democracy how can this happen? We are neither beggars nor jobless. There should be an end to this worst system of declaring holidays,” Shashidhar is seen urging in the video.
The video has gone viral and is receiving positive response from netizens.
