Kundapur, Nov 12: It seems that the Indira Canteen in the town, which was the ambitious project of the former Siddaramaiah led Congress government, does not have the luck of being inaugurated, though it is ready since several months. The main reason for the delay in the inauguration is the repeated elections that are taking place. The election code of conduct is not allowing the authority to open the canteen for the public, though the building is ready.
So far three elections have hampered the opening of the Indira canteen. So the dream of the public here of getting food at subsidized rates is still a mirage. The work of construction of Indira canteen started briskly. When the construction was about to get over in the month of April 2018, the election code of conduct pertaining to the legislative assembly elections came into force.
After the polling of legislative assembly was over, the final part of the construction was taken up. However, when this is being done, the town municipality elections were declared and the work of the canteen had to be stopped. When the town municipality elections were over, all thought that the Indira canteen is going to open soon. However, the election code of conduct of the Lok Sabha elections prevented the opening of the Indira canteen for a third time.
Though Indira canteen is giving a good service to the public in various parts of the state, for the people of this town, it is only a structure as of now. Public here are expressing their unhappiness over this issue. The officials are expressing their helplessness.
Indira canteen in the town is built at the busy Shastri Circle and is expected to get a good public response. However, the inordinate delay has turned the public irate. Now as the elections and the election code of conduct is over, the public hopes that at last, they will be able to have sumptuous food at a subsidized rate soon.
