Mangaluru, Nov 12: While most of us do not give a second thought about recycling waste, a bunch of budding students have achieved a rare fete by designing a four wheeler bike only with scrap items.
Hafeez, Ifaaz, Marva, Zameer and Harsha pursuing science at SDM PU College have made a commendable achievement by inventing a four-wheeler bike out of scrap items. These students had an opportunity to exhibit their project at Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt held at Sahyadri campus in Adyar on November 10. This project received appreciation from the dignitaries who were part of this talent hunt event.
It is not an easy task to build a four-wheeler bike out of scrap materials. Five students have invented this bike under the guidance of college lecturers Rajesh and Gurudeep. They took up the task of building this bike in the month of August and were able to complete it within three months. The required material for the four- wheeler such as silencer, tyres, disc, gear box, tempered rod, lamp, engine, chain, disc plate, calliper and bearing were brought from scrap shops at Ujire, Somanthadka and Bunder in city.
The four- wheeler bike will be useful for the disabled and is also useful for the farmers in many ways. The bike which was projected in the talent hunt event consists of 100 cc engine of Bajaj CT 100, auto rickshaw tyres, 4 litre petrol tank, 12 watt battery and gives mileage up to 40 kilometres
The team is planning to upgrade the vehicle in coming days by installing reverse gear, butterfly steering and will also make it possible to use the same for an adventure ride.
“When we took the scrap materials from the scrap shop somewhere not functioning, so we had to depend on YouTube to take up repair works and make it functional,” said Hafeez.
