Mangaluru Nov 10: Visvesvaraya Technological University vice chancellor Dr Karisiddappa inaugurated 'Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt - SSTH 2018,’ here on Saturday, November 10 at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management in Adyar.

Addressing the gathering Dr Karisiddappa said, “I am very happy to inaugurate this event. This is a platform for young budding talents who can showcase their imagination and creative ideas. Sahyadri College has given the opportunity for the students and inventors to exhibit their thoughts and talents. You need to learn from nature as it speaks to you, but you should understand the nature’s language. Only if you understand, you can grow globally. Scientific ideas come from the nature but first, one needs to understand nature.”

"This event has given the opportunity to students to convert principles into application. Using engineering principles to create product is commendable and is useful to the society. Unless you learn scientifically you can’t learn anything,” he opined.

Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt provides a platform to exhibit scientific thoughts and talents of young budding scientists, a panel for discussion on various topics of science, lectures presented by the scientists, question and answer session’s related to basic science and application oriented themes.



This programme contributes to the generation of new ideas, encourages personal contacts, inspires scientific activities and enables the critical examination of scientific questions from a different perspective. A style of free environment for learning is adopted, where by both formal and informal interactions takes place to create interests, give counsel and direction towards science education to young minds.

As a part of Sahyadri Science Talent hunt, 'Be with Engineers' a pre-event was held at the college campus. This programme intended to mentor 60 best project teams with an interaction with industry experts who will provide hands on training with machines and help improve their ideas. As many as 260 students participated all over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

The programme is basically conducted for PUC and high school students across 30 zonal centres and in more than 70 colleges. The institutions with relatively moderate student strength will be clustered under a single zone. The SSTH funds projects in order to encourage and motivate the young minds.

Dr S Seetharamu, director, National Design Research Forum, former director - Central power Research Institute, Dr. K T V Reddy, president, IETE, New Delhi, Ved Prakash, chief knowledge officer, Trianz, Bengaluru, Siddharth Rajhans from Policies and SDG’s United Nations, Aakarsh Naidu, founder - The Startupreneur, Ex - NSRCEL, IIM Bengaluru, C Nagaraj GM from Solidus Hitech Products, Bengaluru and Pranav Hebbar, co-founder, Make Room India, Bengaluru, chairman of Bhandary foundation Manjunath Bhandary, Project coordinator Johnson Tellis, Coordinator Vaishak N L and Principal R Srinivas Rao Kunte were present.
