Shimoga, Nov 15: The policemen, acting on information extracted from the arrested naxal Jagannath, recovered explosives and naxal literature buried in a village by the naxals.
Giving this information at a press conference held here on Friday November 14, district superintendent of police S Murugan said that Jagannath, who was arrested from Gopi Circle in the town on November 11, was interrogated intensely. As per the information furnished by him, a plastic drum hidden underground in Megoor village of Koppa taluk in Chikmagalur district was disinterred on Thursday November 13. The drum contained 65 bullets, 3 RDX cable wires, six detonators, a reel of AEF wire, four electric pins, two tubes of Araldite, two detonators duly attached with RDX wire, two cassettes, two bundles of gilletin sticks, a binocular, a mobile and naxal literature, hand bills etc.
The arrested person is a B A degree holder and was a member of the CLF. He supports leftist ideals and was active in naxal struggle. The information provided earlier by the arrested Krishna and what Jagannath now says, do match with each other. Some more people from the district may be subjected to interrogation based on the information provided by Krishna, he explained.
The members of the naxal gang do spend time in villages and towns and do not spend their entire time in forests. The department has been exercising vigil and collecting information about the movement of these people. "We could arrest Jagannath because of this strategy. Doddapete circle inspector of police Nityanand had arrested Jagannath. He belongs to T Gopigondanahalli in Honnali taluk," Murugan added.
"Investigations are continuing and we may be able to extract more information. Investigations on Krishna are progressing and we plan to get ballistic report. We have also been gathering information about the people involved with the incident of burning down a bus near Talugangadi. The policemen have also been pooling evidences to nail those involved in the incident," the SP said.
