Udupi: Video shows Indian Navy helicopter collecting fish from boat

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Nov 1: A video clip that has become viral in social websites shows staff of Indian Navy arriving by helicopter, flying low, and collecting fish from the fishermen of a boat free of cost. The video was shot in Arabian Sea on Karwar - Goa border.

The boat in question reportedly belongs to Malpe port. The boat was returning to Malpe after its fishing trip to Goa when the helicopter hovered low near the boat and the people inside signalled the fishermen to part with fish. A bag was lowered with the help of a rope. After the fishermen put some fish into the bag, the bag was pulled back and the helicopter went away.

Some people in another boat, who saw this happening, recorded the incident and uploaded it in social media. The people have largely expressed their criticism for the navy men for having used the navy helicopter meant for defence purposes for personal use.

As per another source, the helicopter belonged the Coastal Guards.

In the past Congress party president, Rahul Gandhi said: "Defence Minister then defense Minister Manohar Parrikar was buying fish in Goa while Prime Minister Modi signed the Rafale deal".

Today after watching live fishing market in open seas by the Indian Navy it is certainly proved that Parrikar indeed shopping at fish market when the national interest of India is at stake.

What kind 'Raksha Kavach' is this Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharman?

See here question is not the fish whether free or paid, but how can Navy squad while on duty can do this , can our soldiers have a cup of tea with enemies or buy some thing on border crucial duty,
Officers must give severe punishment for this or need an suspension order.

    Hello Everone,

Common guyzz, its just a fish that they ask for. Why so much of politics and criticism involved in this? In terms of law, it shall be considered a wrong practice but as an humanity concern they should be just advised not to carry forward the same conduct and given a warning and let it go the matter. There could be a chances were they must have lower the helicopter for security reasons and ended up by taking some fish when eventually they found everything was fine in terms of security concern. I don't understand why do even people come for a conclusion???

I am a Mangalorean and As per my knowledge, the coast guard situated near to panambur beach is doing an excellent job. I did meet many high officials there in regard to some official meeting, and let me say that they are just amazing. The only thing they speak is about safety and stopping all kind off illegal activities happening by the source of Beach. I salute!!!!!!!

    Thank you

This is extortion. What will the fisherman do when the Navy helicopter is on his head. Does the Navy not provide food. This should not be encouraged.

Today some navy personnel took fish from the boat its against the navy protocol he must be punished.

because he putting a navy asset for the personnel use .

at the same time giving a few fishes to the personnel's who protect us shouldn't be a big issue.

    if they can die for you when the call they get i believe its ok to give them some fish's {my personnel view as a civilian}

But from the stand point of view of Nay its unacceptable .

    Hello Gents

Its all part of defense personnel regular training. Some times they choose to have real scenario where in they have lower chopper to release rope on sea surfacing object to lift some one up.

Not everything is stupidity.. Army personnel gets enough fish in their Army canteen, no need of lifting from the sea.

Respect army, when we are all typing on internet they are watching enemies from the border. when you are enjoying bullet ride , they are taking bullet on their chest..

    Let us respect them

Most fishermen struggle to earn enough because fishing is quite hard work with smaller catches, plus fuel costs are very high.

No fishermen would be happy to handover the fish for free.

But it has become a habit for police, various Government workers, and defence personnel to expect things for free from small-time traders.

    It is a shame!

If the fishermen feel happy and proud to part some of their catch free of cost to the Navy, what is the problem. If I was in that boat, I would have been more than happy to give fish to the navy men!
