Mangaluru, Oct 30: On behalf of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, a memorandum was submitted on Monday October 29 to the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district and city police commissioner, alleging that since the last eight months, cows are being slaughtered continuously without following proper procedures at Kudroli slaughterhouse.
They said that as per information collected under Right to Information Act, about 2,000 cows were done to death during this period. "Although complaints had been filed against the city corporation commissioner and other officials in the police station, no action has been taken. Therefore, first information report should be registered immediately," they demanded.
They said that cows and buffalo calves, slaughtering of which are illegal, are carried out at this slaughterhouse. They noted that a person named Vinay L Shetty, who collected the above information under RTI act, has complained to city north police station. But the officials at the station are showing lethargy in registering case on the basis of complaint. City corporation commissioner and other officials, in spite of being aware that religious sentiments of Hindus are hurt, are allowing slaughter of animals that are banned as per law.
The outfits pointed out that offences under section 4 of Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act 1964 is being committed here. They said that the slaughterhouse had been closed in the past, but it was given 18 months time, on the basis of affidavit filed by the city corporation commissioner. Therefore, the slaughterhouse is being run illegally, against the Supreme Court order of January this year, they stated.
