M'lore: KSRTC Staff & Workers Union Asks Govt to be Firm on Route Nationalisation

Mangalore, Nov 12: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Staff and Workers Union has urged the government not to make compromises on its decision to nationalise the national highways and city routes in Dakshina Kannada district.

The union has asked the government to nationalise regions in phases. At the same time, it has requested the government to provide job security to people who are working in the transport sector, duly providing concessions in educational qualifications wherever necessary by extending weightage to experience, concession in upper age limit and to ensure that eligible staff working in private buses do not face injustices.

It has also urged the government to introduce new buses in the city-Kasargod route as per the High Court verdict immediately. The government has also been pressed to appoint people from the district while filling up vacant posts here.

    It is most welcome move to introduce the KSRTC in the districts for city and moffusil services. The private buses seem to have outlived their utility due to its monopoly and people should have a choice.Speed alone can not be the criterion of efficiency. Customer friendly schemes , good bus stands, safe driving habits,lack of ear piercing horns all put KSRTC on different pedestal.

    If the Government backs out on the issue it can be safely presumed that the same has become another Mangalore - Bangalore train story. The public knows how efficiently the Train was delayed and by what methods.

    The KSRTC officials definitely want the nationalization because they can make money by taking huge bribes while recruiting new employees. Its no secret that all the government officials and politicals leaders have hand in glove in these actions. Government buses are welcome on the Mangalore roads but there should not be any monopoly in the sector.

    It is upto Mangaloreans to decide whether they will use Govt Buses or the private operator. Definitely the fittest will survive. Any move to phase out the private buses should be opposed by general public. All those people who hit the streets for every small reason seem to be not bothered about this issue which has more serious consequences to the general public. Finally its up to the people to decide whether they want the private players or not and government should take peoples mandate before making any decision.
