Udupi, Nov 12: Kaup police nabbed a group of four thieves in the wee hours of Tuesday November 11, at Mallar locality, near here.
Rameez, Ashraf, Ismail, Suleiman
The arrested have been identified as Suleiman (23), Rameez (18), Ashraf, and Ismail (32). They had been in the locality for the past few months as rag pickers and doing odd jobs.
Police sources informed that they at a bus stand bear Hosa Marigudi temple, when they were picked up by the night patrol police. A thorough search of their pockets revealed jewellery, that included two bangles and a pair of earrings that were stolen from a certain Chandrakant Kamath's house located in Muloor, on September 17.
Sulaiman is involved in thefts in Suratkal, and Mangalore, while Rameez was booked in a theft case at Kaup police station. Ashraf and Ismail were involved with illegal transport of cattle. Police constables Shivanna, Santosh, Raghavendra, and Arun Kumar were part of the night patrol. Kaup police registered a case in this regard and investigations are underway.
