Mangalore, Nov 11: An inter-school science model competition and exhibition was held at Rosario school on Tuesday November 11, as part of the 150-year celebration of the high school and silver jubilee celebration of the English medium higher primary school.
Dr Mahidas, principal, teacher training school, inaugurated the exhibition. Addressing the students, chief guest Melwin Pinto, headmaster, St Aloysius High School, said that such activities require applying the head, hand, and heart. If there is an absence of one of the requirements, such inventions will not help society. ‘Our contribution to society should not have any adverse effect on it’, he added.
Staney Govias, convener, Rosario school, opined that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Reiterating the statement of great scientist Albert Einstein that ‘Religion without science is blind’, he said most great scientists were religious scholars. One has to be knowledgeable about religion to achieve great success in their venture.
As many as 22 schools participated in the competition. Solar water heater, wind energy, methane gas treatment, atom, hydro pressure project, deforestation, modern methods of agriculture, effects of electric current, IC based fire alarm, flood alarm, self-sufficient village, DC electric motor, structure of teeth, slide projector, AC dynamo, sewage treatment plant, rain water harvesting, and rocket models, were in the competition.
A photography exhibition of the works of amateur photographer Ahmed Anwar, an alumnus, was also held at the school. Victor Almeida, Aloysius D’Souza, Fr Alwyn Serrao, Sr Antony Mary, and Janet Fernandes, were present on the occasion.
