Bangalore, Nov 11: At the interactive meeting of senior officials of the police department held on Monday November 10 at the office of the director general of state police here in the presence of the chief minister, officials are learnt to have laid bare their anger against a spate of transfers of police officers, executed by the chief minister. It is gathered, Yeddyurappa was taken by surprise at the sudden surge of complaints.
After issues like modernization of the department, formation of the Anti-Terrorist Squad etc. were discussed, the issue of transfers came up. Senior officers openly resented large scale transfers that create inconveniences for the officials transferred and the problems faced by the department. The officials also let loose their ire at the fact that senior officials were not consulted before transferring their juniors. They expressed helplessness in properly handling the department affairs, if the transfers are affected at the whims and fancies of political leaders.
An official of the DGP rank reportedly launched a verbal tirade against some government decisions that smack of impropriety. The chief minister had no other go but to accept that he had to affect transfers because of some reasons against his wishes and that hereafter, no transfers would be affected without consulting senior officers.
Speaking at the press conference later, the CM said that a rule not to transfer police officers within the two-year term will be enforced. Short-term, mid-term and long term plans would be drawn up based on the opinions expressed in the interactive meeting, for the effective working of the police department, he added.
