M’lore: Pathetic City Roads - Minister Palemar Warns MCC Officials

Mangalore, Nov 11: Minister Krishna J Palemar who on Monday November 10,  conducted an inspection in the company of commissioner Samir Shukla, MLA Yogish Bhat, mayor Ganesh Hosabaettu etc. of the city roads that  are in a very bad shape, warned the City Corporation officials to work efficiently or face the music.

Speaking at a press conference later, the minister squarely placed the blame for the improper road repair works on the executive engineer of the City Corporation. "He is not corrupt. But he is a blockhead. He does not do any work. Because of his lack of ability, the roads have developed pot holes and never repaired. The city does not have any use from such people who are not good for anything," Palemar commented.

"Because of the faulty functioning style of such officials, the BJP which has risen to power in the City Corporation and the state is facing the blame. I cannot tolerate this.  If he continues to work in this way without mending his working style, I will hold discussions with the corporators, bring the fact to the attention of the government and if found necessary, shift him out of the Corporation," he warned.

"The least one expects the executive engineer to do, is to fill the pot holes in the roads, but he does not attend to even this work. The mayor and the corporators are fed up of pestering the officials to do their duties. As far as I am concerned, I do not like to bring pressure frequently on the officials. This is my final warning to them to wake up and act," he reiterated.

When the reporters questioned as to whether the officials are on a non-cooperation mode, the minister said that it was not lack of cooperation but lapse on the part of the officials that is harming the people.  Mayor Ganesh Hosabettu explained that the Corporation is also plagued by the shortage of staff.  Out of 28 posts of junior engineers, only 11 are provided. A post of the executive engineer too has not been filled and three posts of assistant junior engineer are lying vacant in the corporation, he said.

    When any public work to be done, the question is who funds it. If it is from the government - tender has to be floated, approved and the amount should be earmarked. How on earth the engineer is going to do his job if he is not given money to do it? Naturally the government is to be blamed. Paisa feko, tamasha dekho! Stop paying taxes. Instead collect the money locally and repair the roads and submit the account to the local authority to justify the tax deductions. It is the question of your money and your roads.

    To fill the potholes on the road why you want an engineer? You just need the help of some labourers with hare-pikkas and some stoney mud.
