Udupi: Hegde Concerned Over Decline in Standard in all Professions

Udupi, Nov 11: The valedictory ceremony of the three-day legal workshop for practicing lawyers, organized by the district Bar Association under the aegis of the state Legal Services Authority, was held at the district court complex on Monday November 10.
 
Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, in his valedictory address, said that judges including law practitioners, should discharge their duties thinking it to be a task assigned by God which they should honour accordingly. In our democratically governed country, government employees are public servants and none are officers, he stressed.
 
People are losing trust owing to corruption in the judiciary such as that has been recently reported in Punjab, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. Former Lokayukta Justice Venkatachala tried his best, during his term, to ensure accountability of government employees working in various departments. The public should come forward to lodge complaints against corrupt officers and report any kind of harassments, emphasized Hegde. 
 
Meanwhile, judges and other professionals should not make amassing wealth their sole objective, but should instead give due importance to social commitment, he added.

State Bar Council former president Narayan Poojary presided over the valedictory function.
 
JMFC Judge K N Phaneendra, State Bar Council member Sitaram Shetty, sebior Mangalore lawyers B P Hegde and Purushottam Poojary were also present. District Bar Association president Mattar Ratnakar Hegde welcomed the gathering while secretary Dinesh Nayak proposed the vote of thanks.
