Mangalore, Nov 10: The district Congress committee staged a protest in front of the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) office, against the recent power failures in Dakshina Kannada, on Monday November 10.
Speaking to media persons after submitting a memorandum to the governor through the electricity officer, B Ramanatha Rai, president, Congress committee, said, ‘The state has not seen such power failure in its history. The government has betrayed the people by not adhering to its assurances mentioned in the election manifesto. Free electricity was one of the assurances listed in the BJP’s manifesto’.
Expressing anger at power minister Ishwarappa, he said that the government had no answer to the power failure in the state. Its response to memorandums has been lukewarm. Rai warned that the Congress would intensify the protest against Yeddyurappa’s administration. MLA U T Khader said that power failure had become a social problem. At the same time, the government has failed to contain power theft in the state, he said.
In the memorandum the committee urged the governor to take action against the government for failing to supply electricity to the district. Congress leaders also shouted slogans against the BJP administration. Congress leaders Ivan D’Souza, and Muhiuddin Bava were amongst those present on the occasion.
