MANGALORE, Nov 10: Chairman of Administrative Reforms Commission M. Veerappa Moily said here on Sunday that the Union Government will complete the work of developing the stretch between Surathkal and Nanthoor on the National Highway 17 by next month-end. However, fly-over works may not be completed, he added.
Addressing presspersons here he said the Union Government would complete the four-laning of the stretch between Nanthoor and B.C. Road by December, 2009. The Centre had sanctioned Rs. 33 lakh for repair of a 11-km stretch between Mulky and Padubidri and Rs. 2 croe to repair the 13-km stretch between Brahmavar and Sastan on NH 17. Mr. Moily urged the Mangalore City Corporation to adequately strengthen the Thumbay vented dam as the construction of a new dam there was likely to be delayed by more than two years. Mr. Moily accused the State Government of not handling the power crisis properly. It should have made efforts to purchase power from other States, he said.
