Udupi, Nov 8: A legal services week will be held from Sunday November 9 to Sunday November 16, at the district court complex, as part of national legal literacy day celebrations, said K N Phaneendra, district JMFC judge, in a press conference held at his chamber, on Friday November 7.
The programme is being held in association with the district legal services authority, Bar Association, consumers’ forum, and intellectuals’ association. MGM College principal Prof Jayaprakash Mavinakuli will deliver a special lecture on mental agility and transformation for the inmates of the district jail, on Friday November 14. This will be followed by cultural programmes by the inmates, he added.
Hand bills will be distributed to the public and banners placed on busy streets across the district on Sunday November 16, to popularize the objectives of legal authority. The district ranks first in legal services authority and has organized 208 legal camps in 2007. It had amicably solved 28 cases of 662 cases in 2007 through Lokadalats and awarded compensation amounting to Rs 1.82 crore.
Moreover, it has solved 105 cases in this year from April to October and awarded compensation of Rs 12.70 lac, emphasized Judge Phaneendra. District chief civil Judge A M Ramachandrayya was also present at the press conference.
