Sullia, Oct 15: Shree Vidyaprasannatheertha Swamiji, seer of Kukke Subramanya Samputa Shri Narasimha Swamy Math, withdrew his 60-hour fast on Monday, October 15 after the intervention of Pejawar seer and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
The seer had started the protest on October 13 after the Math was denied water from Kannadi Hole, a stream that flows in the Subramanya reserve forest area. Subramanya Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike had accused the Math of illegally drawing water from the stream, which prompted the Forest Department to cut the water supply on October 12.

While the water issue was only a trigger for the seer’s decision to fast, the seer was upset on the Math being constantly humiliated by the Kukke Subramanya Temple personnel. They used to regularly announce that sevas have to be performed only at the temple and did not allow devotees and arachakas into the temple, the seer had earlier had told media.
CM HD Kumaraswamy, Pejawar seer Vishweshatheertha Swamiji, Suttur Mutt seer and seers from other Ashta Maths of Udupi appealed the seer to withdraw the fast on Sunday and he decided to comply with their requests and withdrew the same on Monday. “The Pejawar seer and CM have assured to sort out issues amicably,” he said.
The seer had told media that in June 2015, the temple had filed an application seeking clearance from the department for the pipeline to obtain water for Math and its cow shed.
