Kalaburagi, Oct 10: A young boy who was addicted to cellphone ended his life out of frustration after his parents deprived him of the mobile phone. This unfortunate incident happened at Mahalaxmi Layout in the city on Monday October 8 night.
The 12-year-old boy who killed himself was Samarth Suraj Palankar. Initially rumours said that his death occurred due to Blue Whale game but the police have clarified that these rumours were baseless. The parents and relatives have been grieving over this unexpected death.
Samarth was a seventh standard student of St Mary's school in the city. He was good in studies but had difficulty in scoring high in Kannada language. On Tuesday, he was to appear for Kannada examination. Therefore, his parents on Monday, had advised him to concentrate on the subject and hid the phone in a place he did not have access to. When he demanded the phone, they gave him some sane advice and urged him to study well. When his mother briefly went out of the house to buy something, Samarth hanged himself from the ceiling fan at his home.
Samarth was the only son of Suraj Palankar, a jeweller by profession. They had raised their son with lot of love and care. The police said that Samarth was addicted to viewing television programmes and playing games and watching cartoons on the mobile phone. He spent most of the time with the cellphone, they added.
The parents were worried as Samarth was lagging behind in Kannada language. District superintendent of police, N Shasjhikuar and assistant superintendent of police, B J Lokesh, felt that the boy would have got angry at the advice given by the parents to study harder and ended his life.
The body of the boy was handed over to his parents after postmortem. A case in this connection was registered at Raghavendra Nagara police station.
