Mangalore, Nov 5: Srinivas Institute of Social Work and Srinvas Institute of Rural Reconstruction Agency (SIRRA) had organized a one-day seminar on “Envisioning a Caring Nation: Newer Perspectives in Rural and Tribal Development” on Tuesday November 4.
Dr Krishna Kothai, director, Centre for Rural Studies, Manipal University inaugurating the seminar said, “Various policies and programmes of Independent India have had marginal effect on the life of the rural and tribal communities. The Koragas, the Malekudias and the Marathi Nayaks, the three major tribes of undivided Dakshina Kannada district, have been left out of the developmental process, especially in the educational sector. There is a need for all of us to think of different ways and means of bringing these communities to the main stream as there can never be development without social justice.”
Srinivas A Rao, the vice-president of A Shama Rao Foundation presided over the function. Dr P S Aithal, the prinicipal of SIMS, Dr Nagamanickam, the coordinator of Srinivas Institute of Social Work, Ashok D’Souza, the seminar coordinator and Kishor Kumar, the student coordinator were present at the function.
