Tumakuru: Police fire at, injure, corporator's murder-accused when trying to flee

Tumakuru, Oct 7: Relating to the murder of city corporator and JD(S) leader, H Ravikumar alias Ravi, the police, on Saturday October 6, fired at and injured Rajesh alias Raji (30), who has been named as murder- accused. Ravikumar, who was trying to escape and suffered injuries in his legs, was taken into custody.

Rajesh belongs to Kundur village. He happens to be an associate of Sujay Bhargav, who has surrendered to the police in the case. After he was arrested and intensely interrogated, Rajesh told the police that the sword and cellphones used during the murder had been hidden in a forest area. On Saturday afternoon, the police were escorting Rajesh to the spot to help in searching the hidden arms. When they reached Linganahalli forest area near Vasanthanarasapur, Rajesh suddenly shoved the policemen away and began to run, in a bid to escape. He also tried to drop a boulder on the head of sub-inspector, Ravikumar, besides snatching his revolver. Deputy superintendent of police, Nagaraj, who is the investigating officer in the case, instantly fired at the legs of the accused and took him into custody.

Sub-inspector, Ravikumar, and accused, Rajesh, both of whom were injured, stand admitted into the district hospital here for treatment. The police are now searching for another accused, Mallesh, a rowdy sheeter from Madhugiri.
