Petrol, diesel prices to reduce by Rs 2.5 per litre as Centre cuts excise duty

New Delhi, Oct 4(India Today): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today laid down a three-point plan to bring petrol and diesel prices under control.

The first aspect of this plan involves the government cutting excise duty by Rs 1.5 per litre of petrol and diesel. Oil marketing companies, simultaneously, will take a Re 1 per litre hit as well.

What this means is that effectively, the prices of petrol and diesel will come down immediately by Rs 2.5 per litre.

Jaitley made this announcement at a surprise press conference in New Delhi where he once again, blamed international crude prices for the near-daily rise in petrol and diesel prices.

Jaitley was still speaking as of last updating this report.

Speaking generally about the Indian economy, Jaitley said that the government has cut down on its borrowing this year and that oil companies have been authorised to raise money internationally with the help of oil bonds.

The government cutting excise duty by Rs 1.5 per liter of petrol and diesel is good as per now. But is it motivated by coming elections or it is a genuine move is a question. Can the government afford slowly to cut excise duty much more on oil? I think the government should give the genuine account of international oil buying and putting the excise duty to the public. I understand the loan that India to pay back to the different countries. But they should not burden much the common citizen as well. I feel a genuine study as to be by the government on this issue. Petrol, diesel prices reducing must not be for the political drama.

Some of the cities banned vehicles as use of these vehicles will spoil the environment. In India every household got one or more vehicles. the Government must put more taxes on 2nd vehicle used by one household. In this way they can control the pollution and save petrol.

Petrol and Diesel prices have come into the record-breaking zone and while middle class Indians continue to suffer, the government is doing the only thing it can do, pray for the prices to come down.

Forecasts suggest the Dollar is expected to touch Rs 74 and crude oil prices are expected to be touching $100 a barrel by May 2019, indicating that Petrol is expected to get its century first. The ‘Naseebwala’ days are over as the government has been hit by the double whammy of rising crude and falling Rupee. The government needs oil revenues to keep itself afloat and does not have the fiscal space to work itself out of the mess that it has dug itself into. The result, we are going to hear less economics and more rhetoric in the run up to the 2019 elections.
It is possible to cut upto ₹25/ltr, but the government will not. They will cheat the people by cutting price by ₹1 or 2 per litre of petrol. This money rightfully belongs to the average consumer. Central government saves ₹15 on every litre of petrol due to fall in crude oil prices. It also puts additional tax of ₹10 on every litre of petrol.
Since May 2014, the Modi Government has increased ‘Central Excise Duty’ 12 times, on petrol by 211% and on diesel by 443% and customs duty has been increased manifold, leading to a ₹12 lakh crore "fuel loot”.
    1. Why the central government can’t roll-back excise and customs duty to provide the people relief of ₹10-15/ ltr?
    2. Why petrol and diesel be under the ambit of the GST?
    3. Why the government had “indirectly given implied consent” to the oil manufacturing companies to hike the petrol and diesel prices at their own “whims and fancies”?
    4. Why the fuel prices remain study for around 22 days in the run-up to the Karnataka Assembly polls?
    5. By increasing fuel prices, the Modi government has collected ₹11 lakh crore. Where has this huge money gone?
    6. An RTI reply has revealed that the Modi government is selling diesel for ₹34/ltr and petrol for ₹37/ltr to other countries?

State and central governments should collect the revinues in rupees not by percentages.Means even when prices of crude oil goes up collect the amount in average basic price.Even if crude prices come down you collect the same amount. Why do you collect more taxes when the oil prices are high. When Congress in power they gave the oil companies to controy the prices as per the oil price.

Tell the truth, which loan you are telling!?. Is it Iran loan!?. Then listen before you blah blah nonsense!. US had tough sanctions on Iran in 2014 and no country could make any payments to Iran else those banks would be punished by US!. Which bank wants to loose business with US?. But India continued to pay in rupees and Iran could use those rupees to buy things from India. But then Iran suddenly stopped accepting rupees but continued to supply crude to India without and payments!. This is the reason why India had a loan with Iran. Now from November 2018 again sanctions will be imposed on Iran and Modiji government too will face the same problem!. Iran has already told that they will continue to supply crude in their own tankers under their own insurance but India can't pay in dollars!. Now the option for Modiji is either to stop importing cheap crude from Iran or do a agreement like MMS did to pay in rupees!. Without knowing all these, please don't dump your nonsense here!!
