Mangaluru, Oct 2: Shakthi Residential School and Pre-University College, Shaktinagar here held a Gandhi Jayanti celebration today at their premises.
Dr Vasanthkumar Perla, retired director of Akashvani offered floral tribute to the portrait of late Mahatma Gandhi. He said that Gandhiji's dream was development of villages. “The country develops after villages, but as only cities develop and villages remain behind without development, youth in the villages depend on cities and elders in villages are unable to guide the youth. Elderly people join old age homes.”
“Gandhiji's dream villages should be formed if imbalance should end. All basic facilities like drinking water, schools and hospitals should be available in villages. The feeling of clean villages should come,” he said.
Shakthi Pre-University College principal Prabhaker G S who presided over the programme said that uplifting of farmers and those who are below poverty line was the dream of Gandhiji. “Gandhiji's dream will realize if change is brought about in the country by giving importance to education,” he said.
Gopalakrishna temple managing trustee K C Naik, chief advisor Ramesh K, development officer Naseem Banu and Gopalakrishna Pre-Primary School convener Neema Saxena were present. Manager Bykadi Janardhan Achar welcomed the gathering. Teacher Poornima compered the programme, college lecturer Shilpa proposed the vote of thanks.
