Udupi, Nov 2: Home Minister V.S. Acharya said on Saturday that the State Government was committed to solving the naxalite problem present in the border regions of Udupi district.
He was speaking at the Rajyotsava function, organised by the district administration here.
Dr. Acharya said that the Government would instil confidence in the people living in the naxalite-affected regions of the district. “In order to ensure that the youth are not attracted to the naxalite movement, the Government will provide basic facilities in the affected regions,” he said.
Stating that the Government wanted to implement the ‘Greater Udupi’ concept, he said that towards this end the roads were being widened in the city. Approach roads and a ring road were planned for the city. The survey for these roads had been completed, he said calling upon the people to cooperate with the authorities in land acquisition process.
New taluks
The Government had sanctioned Morarji Desai Residential Schools at Kaup and Byndoor. The process of making Brahmavar and Byndoor as taluk headquarters was in the final stages. The Government had formed the Karavali Karnataka Development Authority and the Yakshagana Academy, Dr. Acharya said.
Dr. Acharya inaugurated a painting and wall-posters exhibition, “Karnataka vaibhava”.
