Mangaluru: Bondel Laughter Club marks 5,000 sessions landmark

Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 30: Bondel Laughter Club, launched in 2002 by John B Monteiro, marked its 5000th session on Sunday, September 30, with over 50 ‘laughter-cracks’ lustily laughing away. The landmark session held on PWD Maidan in Bondel, had Dr Ramachandra Rao, a leading family doctor in the area, as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ramachandra said that the laughter club offered an ideal daily health exercise regime with a mixture of physical exercises and laughter sequences much beyond plain walking recommended for diseases like diabetes. He urged the assembled to take advantage of the daily sessions offered free by Bondel Laughter Club.

Responding, John Monteiro, traced the nomadic history of Bondel Laughter Club till it settled down on the PWD Maidan on Gundu Rao Road, off the Airport Highway, close to Bondel Church. He also pointed out that the Club had a seasonal life till the local Maratha Sangh offered, in May 2018, it community hall to function even during the monsoons. He said that with this generous offer, Bondel Laughter Club has now become an “all=weather” club.

John Monteiro anchored a full-scale Laughter Club session, including foreplay of physical exercises, laughter sequences and self-esteem declarations, all with bursts of full-throated laughter.

Prof Khaleed, founder-member of the club, while proposing the vote of thanks, exhorted local persons to take advantage of this free service in quest of their health.
