Bengaluru: PAGE members participate actively in Dementia 2018

Bengaluru, Sep 16: “The geriatric population and dementia will be included in the government schemes. Free Medicines and Diagnostics will be provided to patients with dementia,” said minister for Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda inaugurating ‘Dementia 2018’ at J N Tata Auditorium, Indian institute of Science.

Jerardin D'Souza, founder-MAA Mangalore Alzheimers Association met J P Nadda and thanked him for granting the aid to the dementia patients and for trying to include dementia in Ayushman Bharath Scheme.

A team from Mangaluru headed by Dr Prabha Adhikari actively participated. Dr Pratibha, Dr Lavina, Dr Pracheth, Mohanraj, Loretta Pinto, Jerardin D'Souza and others interacted with all participants and attended various programmes happening in different seminar halls.

Dr Prabha Adhikari chaired the presentation of one part of the talks on various aspects of dementia.

‘Silver Lining’, an elders care organization said managing an old age home on profit basis with all facilities can provide a good quality of life to the occupants.

Prof Iracena Leroi, Manchester, United Kingdom spoke on ‘Dementia & Technology’. Jerardin D'Souza interacted with her and with a plan to use her experience to improve the quality of life of elders in Mangaluru introduced her to Dr Prabha Adhikari and Dr Prathibha. A practical discussion happened over lunch. Prof Michael Horbinger, UK, too joined in the deliberations.

There were international participants and from all over the country.

PAGE- Peoples Association for Geriatric Empowerment, from Mangaluru, had a strong presence and learned and had international exposure to the development of dementia facilities.

Invitations for ‘World Alzheimer’s Day’ being observed at town hall, Mangaluru on September 22 were presented to some international guests.

Jerardin D'Souza and Mohanraj of PAGE met Dr Radha Murthy, managing trustee of Nightingales Medical Trust, which was the main organizer of ‘Dementia 2018’ and invited her for the ‘World Alzheimer’s Day’ programme to be held in Mangaluru.
