Sahakara Bharathi Udupi to hold protest against state govt for its failure on farm loan waiver

Udupi, Sep 16: The members of Sahakara Bharathi Udupi unit will hold protest on Tuesday, September 18 in front of DC office Manipal at 10.30 am against the state government for not fulfilling the demands of farmers, said Raviraj Hegde, state vice-president of Sahakara Bharathi Samiti at Udupi press club here on Saturday, September 15.

“Chief Minister Kumaraswamy had announced that the government was keen to waive loans borrowed after April 1, 2009. But it was not taken seriously. According to the government circular of debt waive, if any farmer has deposit in commercial banks or in co-operative societies, he will not get the benefit,” he said.

He further said, “All promises made by CM are anti-farmer. The farmers of Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi have lost crops due to heavy downpour. They must get benefit of farm loan waiver and should get proper compensation. The government have asked a report of depositors and farmers’ loan. There are farmers getting more than Rs 20000 per month. There are 16000 beneficiaries eligible to get farming loan waiver benefits. But due to certain conditions, no one is getting the benefits. The state government should give interest free loans.”

Bola Sadashiva Shetty, district president, Sahakara Bharathi, Udupi, B Madhusudhan Nayak, district general secretary, Sahakara Bharathi and Manjunath S K, chief district leader, Sahakara Bharathi were present.
