Sullia, Sep 15: Holy cross Church (Chapel) Bellare, celebrated its titular feast, the Triumph of the Holy Cross here on September 13. The celebration began with half an hour adoration led by Fr Ronald Lobo the parish priest of Kadaba Church. Fr Abel Lobo, the parish priest of Uppinangadi and the former parish priest of Bellare chapel was the main celebrant of the solemn festal mass.
Fr Francis D’Souza, the administrator of St Anthony’s Ashram and the former parish priest of Bellare, preached on the word of God and said the cross of Jesus is a sign of victory over evil. “The cross strengthens the faithful to follow Christ and become witnesses of the gospel,” he said.
The Bellare community made this day as a historical one by inaugurating the medical fund. Fr Alfred J Pinto, the dean of Puttur deanery inaugurated the medical fund and initiated the families to save at least one rupee per day to help the poor sick people of the parish. Fr Prashanth, Fr Valerian Frank, Fr Jagadish Pinto, Fr Ritesh Rodrigues, Fr Paul D’Souza, Paveen D’Souza, Fr Rayan Crasta, and Fr Thrishan D’Souza also were present for the con-celebration. Fr Anil Lobo, the parish priest of Panja parish, welcomed and Fr Peter Gonsalves, the chapel in-charge thanked everyone.
A small felicitation programme was held soon after the Mass. The senior members of the parish and the talents of the parish were honoured on the occasion. Benjamine D’Souza aged 90 and Lucy D’Souza aged 80, the senior most couples from Bellare ward, Celine Pinto aged 80 from Bellare ward, Lucy D’Souza aged 80 from Bellare ward, and Remezia D’Souza aged 80 from Palthad ward were felicitated. Likewise, achievers Shervin Pinto, and Prathvi Priya D’Souza from Bellare ward and Asha D’Souza from Palthad ward were honoured for their excelling in education. Fr Rayan Crasta distributed the prizes to the winners of various sports events conducted for the feast. YCS unit of the chapel gave a small cultural programme and Fr Valerian Frank said grace before meal, Adarsh, the president of ICYM, Bellare unit was compere of the programme and Avil, the president of YCS unit thanked. The programme came to an end with the community festal meal.
