Bengaluru, Sep 14: The second runway at the Kempegowda International Airport here will have LED lighting. It will be the first ever runway in the country to have this facility. The LED airfield lighting system is relatively cheaper to manage and it consumes much less power, it is gathered.
For the airport here which is scheduled to witness about 55 air traffic movements per hour in its second runway, LED lighting is thought to be very useful. Chief project officer of Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), Tom Shimmin, stated that safety and efficiency will be the two key things which will not be compromised in managing operations of flights. The SafeLED lights, constant current regulators meant to manage power, cables, lighting, and control systems will be supplied by ADB Safegate. The companies AVDGS will integrate with the apron management of the airport for improved performance at the gate, a release by BIAL stated.
The building of second runway has been awarded to L&T, which happens to be the main contractor, on engineering procurement and construction basis. ADB Safegate is said to be working in tandem with the local partner and main contractor to complete the entire project within the time frame of two and half years.
This second runway will be equipped with CAT - III (B) instrument landing system that caters to all kinds of aircrafts including Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8. The entire facility is expected to be ready to serve the people by October next year. Some of the airports which are currently being served by ADB Safegate are Heathrow, Dubai, Paris, Frankfurt, Singapore, Frankfurt and Beijing.
