Udupi, Sep 6: Mahithi Seva Samithi, all India NGO has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding ESI mismanagement by the authorities.

In a memorandum submitted through the district commissioner, the samithi said, "We have already written as many as 1500 letters regarding the same. The PMO office responded to us and said that our complaint has been registered. But unfortunately there is no action till now. In Mangaluru there are nearly 2 lac ESI contributors as per the survey. We had written to ESI director Bengaluru regarding lack of infrastructure in Mangaluru ESI hospital. There are no doctors and staff nurses. The testing equipments are outdated."

"In Udupi there are 90,000 contributors. In Kundapura there are total 20,000 contributors and in Karkala there are over 15,000 ESI contributors. We urge the authorities to restart super-specialty treatment facility at KMC hospital. Mangaluru ESI hospital should be made super-specialty hospital. No member hospital should take consulting fee from ESI contributors. Government must open an ESI hospital in Udupi. We also need efficient regional office in Udupi. The ESI authority must have its own ambulance service."

"ESI is hard earned money of the employees. We urge not to mismanage the ESI funds," they urged.

The samithi has also sent the memorandum to union labour minister, chief minister of Karnataka, director of ESIC Delhi and director ESI Corporation Bengaluru.
