Bengaluru, Sep 6: Policemen of Kottanur station here have arrested two Uganda nationals for defrauding bank customers to the tune of over Rs 25 lac by using fake ATM cards. Two laptops, 20 fake ATM cards, nine cellphones, a two-wheeler,Rs 60,000 in cash and other equipment used for the fraud were seized from their possession.
The arrested men, identified as Babalanda Amunon (25), residing at Kempegowda Nagar, SRK Nagar in Kottanur, and Ondigo Ambrose (22) residing at Rajiv Gandhi Nagara in M S Halli here, stand arrested. Another accused has absconded.
With these arrests, over 20 cases registered in different police stations in the city have been resolved. Reportedly, the accused had used fake ATM cards in the city as well as Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and other places to siphon off money from accounts of customers. They were fixing micro camera plate inside an ATM of Canara Bank at Hegde Nagar circle at around 4.30 pm on August 28 when the police grew suspicious about their action, took them into custody, and questioned them. During their in-depth questioning, various ATM frauds in different states came out into the open, the police said.
The fraudsters used to fix simmers which read the ATM passwords, and micro camera plates having device to read the ATM PIN cards. By using laptops, they used to transfer the data from the above two devices to fake ATMs and draw money using these fake cards, they said during questioning.
