Udupi, Sep 4: “The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), Karnataka will organise a two-day conference ‘Statecon-2018’ with the theme ‘Ease of Doing Business’, which will be hosted by CREDAI Udupi on September 7 and 8 at Basel Missionaries auditorium, Mission Compound here,” said president of the CREDAI Udupi Jerry Vincent Dias.
Speaking at the Udupi press club here on Tuesday, September 4, he said, “CREDAI Udupi is extremely fortunate to host the ‘Statecon 2018’. We are expecting about 300 builders and developers from all over Karnataka. Some famous names include managing directors of Prestige, Mantri Developers, Shobha and many more. The two-day programme will be inaugurated by minister U T Khader, minister of Urban Development and Housing. Guests of honour includes opposition leader Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi MLA K Ragupathi Bhat and chief whip at Legislative Council MLC Ivan D’Souza. The two-day programme will include interactive sessions.
“The sessions include discussion on infrastructure, RERA, affordable housing, skill development etc. CREDAI Karnataka is a body for developers and builders in Karnataka. They have 10 chapters in Karnataka and CREDAI Udupi also is a prominent member. CREDAI members have to adhere to norms and strict implementation of rules and regulations.
“CREDAI Udupi has been in the forefront of CSR activities like building homes for needy people. Affordable housing is the need of the hour and we have sessions on new technology to reduce cost in construction. CREDAI Udupi is presently fighting for shortage of sand and other construction material. We are requesting authorities to expedite new comprehensive development,” he said.
Answering a query from media on GST, Jerry Vincent said, “GST has affected real estate business. People are not coming forward to purchase flats due to high GST rate.
“Another problem is lack of sand in the district. Sand crisis hits the life of building construction labourers. Even people’s representatives are silent. Because of this, economic development of the district is slow. There are sum loopholes in the RERA Act, but we will discuss together and will come to a decision soon. We are demanding for the implementation of a uniform policy for building construction workers,” he said.
Sudhir Shetty, chairman, organising committee and Joyan Lewis, general secretary, were present.
