Mangaluru, Sep 3: The 201st performance at Mainyali Manchi (monthly platform) that is held by Mandd Sobhan on the first Sunday of every month was held at Kalangan, Shakthinagar on September 2. Veteran dramatist Dolla, inaugurated the programme by ringing the bell.
Astitva troupe performed 'Home Sweet Home', translated version of 'Grahasthashrama' written by P Lankesh. Roshan Sequeira translated the drama to Konkani. Young director Clanvin Fernandes directed it. The performance of Christopher D'Souza, Rohan D'Souza, Zeena Braggs, Jackson D'Cunha and Dona D'Souza was commended by the audience. Lester Menezes assisted with the lighting. Anstin and Manish helped with the background.
Eighth troupe of Kalakul commences:
The eighth troupe of Konkani professional drama repertory Kalakul began. Artistes were introduced at 201st monthly 'manchi'. Veteran artiste Dolla presented flowers to the artistes and honoured them. President Louis J Pinto was present.
The troupe should learn stage set up, costumes, sound, lighting control and more and should present four dramas and create and perform few street plays a year. Artistes will be paid honorarium and extra allowance for dramas. A degree will be presented to them at the end of the year.
Mandd Sobhan had established the repertory in 2011 to give a new shape to Konkani drama and their contemporary response. 28 unique and experimental dramas were prepared in the last seven years and 281 presentations of them were held in and outside the country by the repertory. A Kannada drama is also performed. Kalakul has taken part in several state level and national level dramas.
The eighth troupe consists of Shravan Baliga, Savitha Saldanha, Sushmitha Tauro, Agnel Fernandes, Amrin Christan D'Souza, Roshan Coelho, Fravia Mascarenhas, Manish Pinto and Flavia Rodrigues. Arun Raj Rodrigues and Vikas Lasrado are working as trainer and assistant trainer.
