Ponting can Surpass Sachin's Record, says Lamb

Sydney, Oct 20: Former English batsman Allan Lamb has said that though Indian master blaster Sachin was a brilliant cricketer, but Australian captain Ricky Ponting was closely chasing his world record of maximum Test runs.

He said that Ponting could beat Sachin record, set on Friday after surpassing Brian Lara's 11,953 runs, because the Indian might not be able to play for too long. "Tendulkar's probably not the player he was two or three years ago, so he will probably hang up his boots in a year or so. But, then you've got Ricky Ponting steaming up from the back, so I don't know how long the Indians will hold the record," The Sun quoted Lamb.

    Dear Roland.....its a shame that you feel Sachin plays for himself and not for his country. He is one man who has taken the burden of expectations of millions of people, including you and has proved his talent on several occasions. Currently he is not in the best of form but he is still important to the Indian team....him being in the team makes a difference. Time and time again, people like you point fingers at him questioning his commitment and devotion to the game of cricket.

    I am sure Ponting or some other player will break Sachin’s record because records are meant to be broken. But that doesn’t mean that Ponting or this other person (whoever breaks Sachins record) is a better player. So please for Gods sake, leave him alone…..

    I hope Ponting does it soon. He is a better player than the Indian player. Ponting plays for his country, rather than himself. Good Luck Ricky!!!
