Udupi: Aradhanotsava of Shiroor Swamiji to be held on Aug 25

Udupi, Aug 23: 'Aradhanotsava', a celebration held in honour of spiritual heads of Maths after their demise, will be held on August 25 in respect of Shiroor Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji who breathed his last on July 19 this year. The religious programme will be held in the base Math at Shiroor. This was informed by a committee appointed by Sode Math Swamiji to manage the affairs of Shiroor Math, in a release.

The 'Aradhanotsava', is usually held on the 13th day after the demise of the spiritual head of a Math. In the case of Shiroor Math, the same could not be held as the base Math and the one in the city were in the possession of the police who were investigating the death of the Swamiji from the angle of any foul play. There was information that some close ones of the Swamiji had organized the 'Aradhanotsava' privately in a temple near Mulky a few weeks back.

On the day of 'Aradhanotsava', Vedic scholars will perform various religious rituals, perform oblation to the 'Vrindavana' of the Swamiji and do other things mandated by the scriptures. On the same evening, 'Rangapuja' of Lord Mukhyaprana of Shiroor Math will be organized. After the death of the Swamiji, the 'Rangapuja' is being held for the first time in which public participation is allowed. The committee said that henceforth, 'Rangapuja' will be held every Saturday in the Math and the general public will be allowed to participate.

To facilitate these programmes, the police will be withdrawing security provided to the Maths. Sri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji of Sode Math, which is the parrallel Math for Sode Math, is currently engaged in Chaturmasya Vrita at Sonda near Sirsi, Uttara Kannada and the committee appointed by him will undertake works related to Shiroor Math as per his guidance.
