Bengaluru, Aug 21: The state government will be getting experts from Hyderabad and Himachal Pradesh (HP) to study the unprecedented landslides in western ghat areas and coastal districts. It also plans to get to the root of a deafening sound which reportedly was heard a few months back in Kodagu district. Some rumours attribute the current volatile climatic situation to the unexplained phenomenon of huge sound and as such, the government wants to get the same researched.
Karnataka chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, gave this information at a press meet he addressed at his home office, 'Krishna', on Monday August 20. "Two geologists from Hyderabad will study about the huge sound which was heard in Kodagu a few months back and which was attributed to tremors related to earthquake. Geologists from HP, who have long experience in land slides will arrive in the state to undertake study about landslides that have been happening in Malnad region and elsewhere," he explained.
Kumaraswamy explained that media reports had mentioned about tremors having beenn experienced in Kodagu district a few months back. He noted that landslides of large magnitudes have been happening after the rains in that district. "Two geologists from Hyderabad will try to find out reasons for the sudden upheavals in nature. They will undertake studies in Kodagu and other places," he stated.
The CM said that the geologists from HP will study and give advice about ways and means to stop landslides. As Himachal Pradesh experiences large scale landslides every year due to rains, a team there is continuously engaged in managing the landslides effectively. "We had discussed the practicability of deputing a team from Himachal Pradesh to undertake study here and the government there has agreed to send a team shortly. The teams will undertake studies and submit a report containing reasons and recommendations," he explained.
