Puttur, Aug 21: There is resentment against former MLA Shakuntala Shetty accusing her of ignoring the candidates belonging to the faction of Kavu Hemanatha Shetty, former president of Puttur block Congress in the selection of candidates as well the allotment of tickets for the forthcoming town municipality elections.
Shakuntala Shetty had announced the list of Congress candidates for 31 wards on Saturday, August 18. However, the names of the president of the town municipality Jayanti Balnad, members like H Mohammed Ali, Mukesh Kemminje, Anwar Kasim, Jayalaxmi Suresh, Swarnalatha Hegde, Usha Dhananjaya Acharya, Zohara Nissar, who identified themselves with Hemanath Shetty faction are not there in the list. Moreover, even the candidates selected by the Mohammed Ali group are also not faring in the list that is released on Saturday by the former MLA.
Former Block Congress president Hemanath Shetty and the faction of H Mohammed Ali had prepared a list of candidates for all the 31 wards of the town municipality and submitted the same to the Congress party observers. However, former MLA Shakuntala Shetty, who has taken the lead and block Congress president Mohammed Badagannur have not given a ticket to the important candidates in the list provided by Hemanath Shetty faction and have provided tickets to only people who are in good terms with them.
This has resulted in the internal conflict within the Congress party of Puttur to be out in the open again. It is learnt that a study was conducted by the district Congress committee against the people who are accused of working against the party in the recently concluded assembly elections and report was submitted to the KPCC. Accordingly, KPCC has served notice to certain people and these people are not given a ticket for the coming town municipality elections.
