Bangalore, Oct 18: The state cabinet, which met here on Thursday October 16, recommended the name of centenarian religious head, philanthropist and educationist Dr Shivakumar Swamiji of Tumkur siddaganga Math, for conferring of the highest civilian honour of the country, 'Bharat Ratna' title. He name was forwarded to the central government.
The meeting, chaired by the chief minister, also recommended the names of scholar and musician Dr R K Srikantan and Pandit Puttaraj Gawai for the 'Padmabhushan' title. In addition, names of Rashrakavi Dr G S Shivarudrappa, vocalist Shyamala G Bhave, singer K S Ashwath, Dr K A Ashok Pai, sportsperson Pankaj Advani, Dr R J Bagiltaya, Enagi Balappa, Dr P V Mariappa, Dr M M Joshi, Dr K S Gopinath, flautist Shashank, B Sheik Ali, Bannanje Govindacharya, Bhadragiri Achutadas, Dr Johnji Devarar and Prabhakar Jois were recommended for the 'Padma' awards, informed minister Shobha Karandlaje.
