Mangaluru: Lourdes Central School celebrates 72nd Independence Day

Mangaluru, Aug 15: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at Lourdes Central School (LCS), Bejai at the school ground.

The chief guest of the programme, the manager of LCS Fr Wilson Vitus L D’souza, principal Fr Robert D’Souza, vice principal Belita Mascarenhas, management committee member Augustine Rodrigues and PTEC vice president Veena Amrith were escorted by the school band, guides, scouts, cubs and bulbuls.

The programme began with a prayer song sung by the school choir. Principal Fr Robert D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The chief guest unfurled the national flag with the other dignitaries. The national anthem was sung by one and all.

Zareen Rehman of class X and Sunidhi Hegde of class IX briefed about the significance of the day in English and Hindi. The school choir regaled the audience with the patriotic song which filled the hearts with patriotism.

Manager Fr Wilson Vitus L D’Souza in his speech spoke on being a proud Indian and wished everyone a happy Independence Day. He emphasized on remembering the endless resistance of great freedom fighters who fought against the foreign rules and their struggle they faced to unite the country. He requested the students to be the future Indians and to unite together for a common goal to uphold the values and to make the country the best in the world.

Andrea of class VIII rendered the vote of thanks. Rion Valdar class IX A and Adora Mascarenhas of class IX B hosted the programme. Vidya Joseph, Henry Mascarenhas, Asha Shet organised the programme. The programme ended with the distribution of sweets to all the students.
