Sullia, Aug 15: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and family who were enroute Kukke Subramanya Temple from Dharmasthala were delayed due to rains and waterlogging while travelling via Puttur-Jalsur route near Udane on Tuesday, August 14.
The vehicular movement was severely disrupted as the rains led to increase of water in ‘Kempu Hole’ which caused flooding post-midnight. On Tuesday morning, people had to wade in water which is around 4 feet deep.
The CM reached Kukke at 11 am and offered ‘Ashlesha Bali’ and ‘Maha Pooja’.
The police diverted traffic to Bengaluru via Ichalampady-Mardala-Gundya to reach Shiradi Ghat. Vehicles moving towards Mangaluru were diverted at Gundya to travel on the Periyashanthi-Ichlampady route. However, travel on these routes are challenging as not only one has to commute additional 50 kilometres, but the roads are narrow.
With rains still lashing, and river Nethravathi crossing the danger mark, there are chances water will enter Sahasralingeshwara Temple in Uppinangady.
The Hosmata Bridge across Gundya stream remains inundated for the third consecutive day. Traffic on Kadaba-Uppinangady route has been badly affected, making it challenging for devotees visiting the Kukke Subrahmanya Temple.
Meanwhile, landslides have been reported in at least four locations in Shiradi Ghat with the major one at Marenahalli in Sakleshpura taluk. The NH-75 in Sakleshpur taluk remained blocked for the second consecutive day. All buses from Bengaluru to Mangaluru were delayed for several hours.
Kumaraswamy’s entourage had travelled via Charmadi Ghat on August 13 to reach Dharmasthala.
Heavy rains also lashed Kodagu district. Vehicular movement on Bhagamandala-Madikeri and Bhagamandala-Ayyangeri road were cut off.
