Mangaluru, Aug 14: As a part of raising awareness on malaria, the District Family and Child Welfare department in association with Mangaluru City Corporation distributed free mosquito nets at KSB Colony, Yekkur on August 12.
Distributing the nets, Dr Mamatha of primary health care center, Yekkur said, “In general, majority of us know that malaria comes from mosquito bite. But we never bother about it. It is better to avoid malaria by taking proper precautionary methods. Usage of mosquito nets is one way to secure ourselves from malaria. Clean surroundings and culverts can save us from malaria. Every rainy season the department Family and Child Welfare give instructions to people to prevent malaria. It distributes mosquito nets. So it is my kind request to people to make proper use of it.”
Praveen Chandra Alva, corporator said, “Mangaluru City Corporation every year organizes various programmes on awareness on malaria. It spends crores of rupees to clean the city especially in rainy season. Government authorities only cannot do this work. When people join with authorities, cleaning and other related work to prevent malaria can be done easily to achieve result.”
