Mangaluru, Aug 14: Yuva Spandan Derebail (YSD-ICYM Derebail unit) wonderfully recently organized a unique programme called Pavsa Gammath 2018 at Most Holy Redeemer Church main hall.
The event began by invoking the blessings of the Almighty in the form of a prayer dance led by Jassica Misquith (cultural secretary – ICYM YSD) and team. Soon after the prayer dance the guests were escorted to the dais by the YSD/ICYM president, Ivy Melisha D’Souza and YSD secretary, Sandra Pinto.
Fr Austin Peter Peres, parish priest/unit director; Fr Gration Alvares, associate director; Fr Ronald Prakash D'Souza, director of ICYM Central Council, Mangaluru uiocese; Edward Coelho, vice president of Parish Pastoral Council; Lizzie Fernandes and Jeethan Castelino, animators of YSD/ICYM Derebail unit, Jaison Pereira, president, ICYM Central Council and Flevisha Monteiro, secretary, ICYM Central Council and other ICYM office bearers were the guests present at the programme.
Ivy Melisha D'Souza, president of YSD welcomed the gathering. The guests who were present on the dais were given a floral welcome. Lizzy Lasrado beautifully elucidated Pavsa Gammath and the tradition associated with it. She spoke of the manner in which people looked forward to this season. Fr Ronald Prakash D'Souza (Fr Rons Ajekar) spoke a few words and congratulated Yuva Spandan Derebail YSD - ICYM for putting up such a unique and wonderful programme. Fr Austin Peter Peres addressed the gathering and spoke a few words with regard to Pavsa Gammath. The symbolic inauguration of Pavsa Gammath 2018 was then done. The guests along with animators of Yuva Spandan Derebail pulled the ribbon off the box filled with confetti. As the ribbon got pulled, the confetti fell symbolising rain and within the box displayed 'Pavsa
Gammath 2018'. Sandra Pinto, secretary of YSD then proposed the vote of thanks concluding the inaugural programme.
The cultural programme began with a live band performance. Many talented parishioners and various associations of Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail beautifully put up a cultural programme which comprised of dance, skit, jokes, Mad ad, live singing, music, Mando and more. Spot games were conducted for the enthusiastic audience. 22 ward gurkars, sponsors and all those who toiled for the success of the programme were felicitated with mementos and flowers. A collection box was circulated by YSD among the audience so as to meet the expenses of the event. As soon as the cultural programme came to a close, Fr Gration Alvares prayed over the meals.
The guests were then led toward the food counter followed by the parishioners. There were a total of 23 delicious food items prepared by the ward members of Derebail parish. The crowd expected for the event was 600 but the actual crowd who witnessed Pavsa Gammath 2018 was about 1000. Apart from Derebail parishioners, there were many outside parishioners as well. Everyone enjoyed the evening as well as the food. They, Yuva Spandan Derebail YSD-ICYM were appreciated and applauded for the wonderful execution of the marvelous event. No doubt that Pavsa Gammath 2018 has become a grand success and a memorable one. The entire event was compeered by Sheldon Crasta. The backdrop on the stage and the entrance of the hall was ornated keeping in mind the tradition associated with the event. Most of the crowd including the youth wore traditional attire. Pavsa Gammath 2018 concluded with Baila led by the live band group and DJ Prajwal Sequeira.
