Udupi, Aug 9: JD(S) has finalized its first list of candidates for the coming urban local bodies election. It has finalized its candidates for eight wards in this city municipality and five wards in Karkala town municipality.

This information was provided at a press conference held here on Wednesday August 8 by district JD(S) president, Yogeesh Shetty. He said that Ramesh Shetty Moodabettu will fight from Moodabettu ward, K Ramesh Shetty will be fieldedl in Shiribeedu ward, Rohit Karamballi from Karamballi ward, Anita Shetty from Ajjarkad ward, Chandrakala Chitpady from Kasturba Nagar ward, Jayakar Poojary from Indiranagar ward, Shashidhar M Ameen from Vadabhandeshwar ward and Arif Gundibail from Gundibail ward.

In Karkala, Nassir Hussain will enter the fray from Kaje Banglegudde ward, Umesh Kallotte from Jarigudde Salmara ward, K P Shivananda from Danashale ward, Muhammed Zubair from taluk office ward, while Sachin Devadiga will be fielded from Rotary ward. He said that his party has been selecting candidates for other wards and that their names would be announced when releasing second list. He added that some candidates have also been chosen for Kundapur town municipality and Saligrama town panchyat, and that names of candidates from Kundapur would be released in a couple of days.

About the statement made by a Congress leader that alliance with JD(S) is not on the cards in coastal Karnataka as JD(S) does not have a strong footing here, he said people equip them with clout and power and not some party leaders.

He criticized the city municipality here for failing to streamline drinking water supply, poor maintenance of street lights, improper underground drainage, damaged roads, improper disposal of garbage, non-renewal of licences promptly and lack of infrastructure.

JD(S) leaders, Vausdeva Rao,Jayakumar Karkala, Prakash Shetty and Dakshat Shetty were present.
