Kasargod, Aug 7: The strike by transport workers urging to withdraw motor vehicle amendment bill of the union government converted into a bandh in Kasargod on Tuesday, August 7.
KSRTC, private buses, goods lorries, auto rickshaws and taxis kept off the road. Shops were closed. Most schools declared a holiday. Only a few private vehicles could be seen on the roads.
Protests were held in Manjeshwar on August 6, condemning the murder of CPM activist Uppal Sonkal resident Abubakar Siddique. As the strikes converted into bandh here, normal life has badly affected. There are however no reports of untoward incidents.
All labour organisations except BJP's labour organization BMS have expressed support to the protests.
The strikes are held urging for withdrawal of motor vehicle amendment bill, roll back of increased insurance premium, control in increase of prices of petroleum products and other demands.
