Udupi, Aug 4: Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis addressing a press meet on Friday August 3 at DC office conference hall said, "Local-urban bodies’ election was declared on August 2. The election will be conducted for four local bodies namely Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala and Saligrama town panchayat. There will be no election for Kaup town municipality.
Voters details under local bodies
Udupi city municipality has a total of 35 wards, 98,500 voters, of which 48,069 are males, 50,430 females and 1 is others.
Saligrama town panchayat has a total of 16 wards, 13,201 voters, of which 6,321 are males, 6,880 are females.
Karkala has a total of 23 wards, 20,471 voters, of which 9,820 are males, 10,651 are females.
Kundapur Municipality has total of 23 wards, 23,164 voters, of which 11,241 are males, 11,923 are females.
Total number of wards are 97 having 1,55,336 voters of which 75,451 are males, 79,884 are females and 1 is others.
Polling booths
Udupi CMC has 99 voting booths (88+11 auxiliary), sensitive (32 auxiliary+5 normal), (56+6) general polling booths.
Kundapur town Municipal council has 23 voting booths, 5 sensitive and 18 general.
Karkala town Municipal has 23 polling booths.
Saligrama town panchayat has 16 polling booths, 2 micro sensitive, 13 sensitive and 1 common booth.
EVM supply
The election commission will supply required EVMs based on demand to respective local bodies. 200 ballot units and 200 control units were examined in the first phase
(FSL) in the presence of EVM and representatives.

Election officers and assistant EOs have been appointed for respective local bodies of Udupi district.
Nomination place details
Nomination will be received at CMC Udupi and Saligrama town panchayat. Under Karkala town municipal council, 1-8 wards will be received at mini vidhana soudha, Karkala taluk office, 9-16 wards will be received at taluk office old building, Karkala, 17-23 wards will be received at mini vidhana soudha, Karkala taluk office.
Candidates of Kundapur town municipality can apply for nominations at three places. 1-8 wards at EO office Kundapur, 9-16 wards at taluk office Kundapur, 17-23 wards at town municipality Kundapur.
Model Code of Conduct
The Model Code of Conduct was applied soon after the date of election declaration and it will be continued till September 1.
Details of total polling officers and required staff
The total requirment for officers and staff is 966. The total PROs required are 161, assistant PROs - 161, POs are 483 and D group staff are 161.

The district administration held a preliminary meeting with police department, excise department, revenue/local body officers, staff on July 5 for a smooth functioning of election duties.
A district level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee has been appointed to control media publications.
A team has been formed to review the expenditure of candidates of local bodies.
It was instructed to appoint three shiftwise flying squads for observing election activities. They have planned police security.
The state election commission has restricted expenditure for party contenders. Upto Rs 2 lac for Udupi CMC, upto Rs 1.50 lac for Kundapur and Karkala town municipal council and upto Rs 1 lac for Saligrama town panchayat.
The district administration is directed to form a district level single window committee to facilitate all election information under one roof.
August 17 is the last date for enrolling new voters to the voters' list and making correction in voter ID.
