Kundapur, Jul 29: “The intention of taking away clothes of women here may be theft. It may also be the work of psychopaths. There is no need for anyone to be anxious about this issue. Police are with you. Suspected people are called to the police station and questioned in this regard. Let us solve this curious case with a detective mind,” said Dinesh Kumar, DySP, Kundapur subdivision.

He was speaking in a public meeting held at Vandse gram panchayat regarding the strange incidents that are taking place in Vandse for the past one week.

Continuing his assurance, the DySP said, “The cooperation of the public is also necessary to solve such a case. Police are with you. If you find a person threatening you, hand over him to the police without assaulting him. Behaving patiently is important in such instances. Such a person has to be arrested using a detective mind".

“Police department has already taken a special initiative in this regard. Policemen will be stationed here till the suspects are found. Inform the beat policemen, if you notice any suspicious person. The police department of our district has a good name in the administration of law and order. Beat police system is an important development. It plays a major role in making the police system pro-people. Local people also are members of the beat system. It is an excellent platform to hold meetings every month under the leadership of police station inspector and tell your problems,” he added.

He also gave information about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and road safety on the occasion.

Gram panchayat president Udayakumar Shetty chaired the meeting. Kollur station inspector Shivakumar, gram panchayat vice-president Sharada Rudrayya Acharya, gram panchayat members Udaya Naik, Gundu Poojary, former gram panchayat vice-president Srinivas Poojary, milk producer’s cooperative society president Thyampanna Shetty,
Ashirwad friend’s president Mahesh Ganiga, Matrubhoomi youth organization president Ramesh Poojary, old student’s association president Sandesh Shetty Adikekodlu, JCI’s Govardhan Jogi, Rickshaw owners' and drivers' association Dinaker Ganiga, police staff and people were present.

Clothes of women are being stolen in Vandse gram panchayat limits repeatedly since the month of May this year. Suspected people were found often near a house at Adikekodlu during the last four days. They fled when the residents of the house saw them. It is happening during daylight. More than 200 people went chasing them on Wednesday, July 25. But they managed to escape. People of this locality are afraid because of these bizarre incidents. Local people have started guarding the village in groups since Wednesday. Therefore, DySP visited Adikekodlu personally and inspected the spot where the suspects were found. Hundreds of people had gathered at the spot.
